As I continue to work with Clear Jel I'm researching other recipes that work using it in conventional ways. I've talked about using it as a substitute for cornstarch or flour in making gravy.

Gravy:

For 1 T. of Cornstarch you will use: 1 1/2 T. of Clear Jel
For 2 T. of Flour you will use: 1 T. of Clear Jel

It works well for gravy since the Clear Jel will heat through clear so you will not have a change in the color of the stock or whatever liquid you are using. It also does well when you reheat the gravy and doesn't leave lumps.

Clear Jel also is a great way to work with cookies. There is a whole wheat cookie recipes that I have seen around the net, but I wanted to send some cookies to my son and know that he probably wouldn't eat them. I have posted that recipe below in case that is one you want to try. I also found on a bakers site a great idea for the classic recipe and it is great. I had heard that Clear Jel makes them more like Odis Spunkmeyer cookies so here is the recipe below that I finished and give it two thumbs up! Mine are not perfect in shape but delish in flavor!

For Better Homemade Cookies: Substitute all (or part) of the shortening in your cookie recipe with real butter. Use 1 T. of ClearJel per 1 Cup of flour in your recipe. Normally, adding butter to your recipe will make the cookies spread out flat, but the addition to the ClearJel, the cookies will maintain a nice shape, even cut-out cookies will roll out better with the ClearJel. Adding ClearJel to any cookie recipe will make them softer, chewier and give them a melt-in-your-mouth feel.
